Case Study 1 - Kenya Ministry of Health - Managed Equipment Services - General Electric Appointed Project Manager

SST has been selected by GE to implement a MES contract that was awarded to the US based equipment provider by the Kenyan Ministry of Health. The project’s application involves the installation, testing, maintenance and replacement of medical equipment, and the associated training, for county and sub-county referral health facilities across 98 hospitals in Kenya – as well as a Nairobi based training center. GE was awarded the contract to supply the equipment for the projects, and SST will provide the required equipment services on the basis of project related orders. Under the contract, SST is responsible for all necessary integration and upkeep personnel responsibilities, and SST is also responsible for developing all of the project-related IP.

The project was initiated in 2015 and will run a term of 7 years through 2022; including both the implementation and service and maintenance phases of the project.

Seven Seas role in delivery of the project

SST’s primary objective is to implement the implement and support equipment and infrastructure on behalf of GE; specifically:

  • To oversee and coordinate site surveys across the 98 hospitals distributed within 47 counties in Kenya, and for the training center to be situated in Nairobi
  • To oversee and coordinate the civil works construction, equipment installation, acceptance tests and commissioning of GE Healthcare, Carastream and GE Critical Power equipment at the hospital sites
  • To plan, schedule, and guide delivery of the whole project within the stipulated timeframe
  • To ensure project sign-off at all 98 Hospitals and with the Kenya Ministry of Health
  • To provide staffing resources for the maintenance and the equipment during the term of the agreements

Case Study 2 – Nairobi West Hospital – Cancer Center with Varian Medical Systems- Appointed Project Manager & Distributor

Nairobi West Hospital Oncology Project

General Overview

SST has been awarded a mandate to build-out and implement the Oncology requirements for Nairobi West Hospital. The contract involves supply and integration of three (3) Varian Radiotherapy Equipment, Halcyon, VitalBeam machines and TrueBeam Oncology diagnostics machine. Following the implementation and commissioning of the equipment the project manager will provide ongoing support services to the department.

Nairobi West Hospital (NWH) is a 24 hour; 150-bed capacity, fully fledged modern medical facility. The hospital is located in Nairobi West, off Langata Road on Gandhi Avenue, approximately 150 meters from Nairobi West Shopping Centre. The Hospital has a client base that includes non-governmental organizations, parastatals, insurance firms, private, public organizations, and private individuals.

Primary Objectives

SST will supply the following equipment and services to the hospital

  • Supply of 3 Varian radiotherapy equipment Halcyon- (Complete ), VitalBeam and TrueBeam.
  • Cancer facility bunker design consulting services
  • Supply and delivery of associated accessories
  • Provision of PMO services such as site readiness coordination and inspection, loading and rigging supervision and coordination and architectural and design coordination and review

Case Study 3 – Kenyatta University Referral Hospital – Cancer Center with Varian Medical Systems- Appointed Project Manager

General Overview

SST has been awarded a mandate to project manage Oncology implementation by Varian Medical Systems for the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital. The contract involves overseeing the integration of one (1) Varian Radiotherapy Equipment VitalBeam Oncology diagnostics machine.

Nairobi West Hospital (NWH) is a 24 hour; 150-bed capacity, fully fledged modern medical facility. The hospital is located in Nairobi West, off Langata Road on Gandhi Avenue, approximately 150 meters from Nairobi West Shopping Centre. The Hospital has a client base that includes non-governmental organizations, parastatals, insurance firms, private, public organizations, and private individuals.

Primary Objectives

SST will supply the following equipment and services to the hospital

  • Oversee the implementation of the of 1 Varian radiotherapy equipment Machine
  • Cancer facility bunker design consulting services in conjunction with the Chinese Contractor
  • Supply and delivery of mechanical infrastructure and associated accessories
  • Provision of PMO services such as site readiness coordination and inspection, loading and rigging supervision and coordination and architectural and design coordination and review .

Case Study 4 – Tesla Cancer Hospital – Cancer Center with Varian Medical Systems- Appointed Project Manager

Tesla Cancer Hospital Oncology Project

General Overview

SST has partnered with Varian Medical Systems International (Varian), a global leader in the supply of radiotherapy equipment, to supply Tesla Cancer Hospital with radiology equipment. SST will provide training, consulting and commissioning services, as well as provide equipment servicing for the duration of a 5-year contract. Tesla Cancer Centre, a landmark state-of-the-art medical facility, will be the region’s first comprehensive cancer diagnostics and treatment center — expected to be launched in October 2018. The center will seek to cater to c. 5,600 Kenyans who currently seek cancer treatment in either India or South Africa.

Varian Systems

Varian Medical Systems is a leading radiation, oncology treatment and software maker. These medical devices include linear accelerators and software for treating cancer and other medical conditions with radiotherapy, radiosurgery, proton therapy, and brachytherapy. The company supplies software for managing comprehensive cancer clinics, radiotherapy centers, and medical oncology practices. Varian Medical Systems employs approximately 6,350 people at manufacturing sites in North America, Europe, and China and approximately 70 sales and support offices around the world.

SST was appointed in 2012-2019 as an exclusive distributor of Varian Medical systems and products in the Kenya until Varian setup their office in Kenya in 2019 and the rights to provided scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance and support services.
